I came to my Korean class last Saturday in a hurried and haggard state. The class is about to start and I was literally out of breath. I first went to UP Balay Kalinaw to leave my things which I will use during the afternoon’s graduation. And then I had to run to Palma Hall for the Korean class, which is located at the 4th floor. *huff*
Before the class started, Seonsaengnim divided the class into two because the students who enrolled reached about 30. The other class is going to be handled by a Korean teacher. To my relief, three of my friends and I remained with Seonsaengnim’s class. And so, we were down to 16.
Assignment: Writing Practice
Seongsaengnim didn’t give a surprise quiz. Hurray! He said that he will give the quiz next meeting. Yes! A reprieve! However, he asked us to introduce ourselves in Hangul/Korean. I awkwardly introduced my self, well, I’m sure my classmates felt the same too. I wasn’t too sure if I got the intonation and pronunciation correctly. But Seonsaengnim gave us a review. I hope that by next meeting, I’ll be able to introduce my self properly and correctly.
Secondly, we reviewed the Korean alphabet. I’m a bit familiar with the letters now but I admit I still get confused with some letters that looked and sounded the same. Furthermore, I have difficulty pronouncing those letters which are aspirated and tensed. And yes, to add more to the confusion, Seonsaengnim introduced a rule about silent consonants. Hmm, this is getting harder and harder!
Assignment: Writing Practice 2
Seonsaengnim asked us to write our names on the board and he corrected it. I got my first and second name correct but I wrote my surname incorrectly. But it was fun activity. I will practice by writing the names of my friends and other family members.
For our assignment, Seonsaengnim asked us to familiarize ourselves with basic classroom expressions because by next meeting, he will speak to us not in English nor Filipino, but in Korean/Hangul. Oh No! And of course, the surprise quiz and the writing sets that we have to submit. I know, I know, this is the life of a student! Good luck to me and the rest of the class!
